"Our leadership team draws on a wealth of international experience in multilateral institutions and the business world, in such areas as corporate finance, commercial and investment banking, international law and risk management. The team is bringing new energy to a revamped organization as it works to meet the evolving demands of the private sector in Latin America and the Caribbean."
James P. Scriven
Mr. Goldfajn served as Director of the Western Hemisphere Department at the International Monetary Fund in 2022, where he helped countries implement IMF-supported programs to address an unprecedented array of challenges. He also contributed to the region’s policy dialogue on climate change with the IMF and oversaw the first Resilience and Sustainability Facility of the institution. Earlier in his career, he worked as an economist at the IMF, 1996-1999.
Mr. Goldfajn previously served as Governor of the Banco Central do Brasil (BCB) 2016-2019 and Deputy Governor 2000-2003. He led the BCB in a period of unprecedented decline in inflation and interest rates in Brazil. He championed the structural “BC+“ agenda and oversaw the changes that opened the door to new players in the financial services industry, spurred innovation, digitalization, and started developing widespread fast payment system, all of which bolstered efficiency and more inclusion in Brazil’s financial sector.

IDB Invest is owned by its 47 member countries, 26 of which are in the Latin American and Caribbean region. Each country’s voting power is proportional to the number of IDB Invest shares it holds. Each member country appoints a Governor and an Alternate Governor. In the case of countries that are members of both IDB Invest and the IDB, someone who serves as Governor or Alternate Governor of the IDB holds that same position ex officio in IDB Invest, unless the country indicates otherwise. All the powers of IDB Invest are vested in its Board of Governors, which may delegate its powers to the Board of Executive Directors. The Board of Governors selects one of the Governors to serve as its Chairman. It holds annual meetings in conjunction with annual meetings of the Board of Governors of the Inter-American Development Bank and may hold other meetings called by the Board of Executive Directors. The Board of Governors may delegate all its powers to the Board of Executive Directors with the exception of those set out in Article IV, Section 2 (c), of the Agreement Establishing the Inter-American Investment Corporation and any other powers specified in said Agreement.
