Project scope and objective

The proposed financing consists of an Accounts Receivable Purchase Facility (the “Facility”) for Sugal Chile Limitada (“Sugal Chile” or the “Company”), under which IDB Invest will purchase a portfolio of eligible receivables. Each eligible receivable originates from the sale of tomato seedings, fertilizers, crop protection products, and other agricultural inputs required for land preparation and tomato cultivation to farmers (the “Agribusiness Account Receivables”).

The Company is the Chilean subsidiary of Sugal Group, a leading global producer of tomato paste. The Company maintains a network of approximately 300 small and medium-sized tomato growers that supply tomatoes used as raw material in its processing operations. Through its Agribusiness Account Receivables program, Sugal Chile provides financing for key agricultural inputs required for tomato cultivation, complemented by technical assistance and agronomic support throughout the growing cycle.

The Facility is expected to enhance access to finance for small and medium-sized farmers, strengthen the resilience of the Company’s agricultural supply chain, and promote more sustainable agricultural practices in Chile.

Environmental and social review

IDB Invest conducts an environmental and social due diligence (ESDD) commensurate with the nature, scale, and stage of the project, and with its level of environmental and social risks and impacts. The ESDD will confirm the project E&S categorization and assess the project with respect to the client requirements in IDB Invest Environmental and Social Sustainability Policy. The results of the ESDD, including any identified gaps are described in the Environmental and Social Review Summary (ESRS) provided below. For projects approved as of 2016, any gaps with respect to IDB Invest's Environmental and Social Sustainability Policy at the time of the ESDD are addressed in the Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP) presented below, to comply with the date mentioned above.
