Project scope and objective

IDB Invest is considering an investment of up to US$40 million in LAC eco.business Fund (“EBF” or “the Fund”) that Finance in Motion (“FIM” or the “Fund Advisor”) is advising. The Fund was established in 2014 and focuses on resilient agribusiness and food security throughout Latin America and the Caribbean (“LAC”). EBF makes loans through financial institutions and directly to corporate entities, and specifically promotes biodiversity conservation, sustainable use of natural resources, and climate mitigation and adaptation. The Fund has an open-ended evergreen structure, with current size of approximately $600 million. EBF is a successful existing client; IDB Invest’s loan to the Fund would be fully amortized in December, so this investment would strengthen the long-term relation with this strategic partner. FIM is a leading global impact asset manager, with extensive experience and a deep regional network.

Environmental and social review

IDB Invest conducts an environmental and social due diligence (ESDD) commensurate with the nature, scale, and stage of the project, and with its level of environmental and social risks and impacts. The ESDD will confirm the project E&S categorization and assess the project with respect to the client requirements in IDB Invest Environmental and Social Sustainability Policy. The results of the ESDD, including any identified gaps are described in the Environmental and Social Review Summary (ESRS) provided below. For projects approved as of 2016, any gaps with respect to IDB Invest's Environmental and Social Sustainability Policy at the time of the ESDD are addressed in the Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP) presented below, to comply with the date mentioned above.
