Project scope and objective

Granja Tres Arroyos is an Argentine-owned company that breeds and raises chickens. Its production has grown 84% over the past five years; in 2008 it processed some 375,000 chickens a day. GTA, the largest producer of poultry meat in Argentina, sells its products on the domestic and international markets and exports approximately 35% of its production. GTA’s payroll has grown at a steady pace and totaled more than 3,000 people in December 2008.


The IIC would be providing financial support for GTA in the form of an US$8 million loan that would be used principally to fund GTA’s investment plan. GTA’s vertical integration encompasses the entire supply chain, so investments must be made in virtually all stages of the production process. For this reason the IIC project will seek to help GTA expand its breeding, laying, hatchery, feed, processed products, and slaughter operations in order to increase its production capacity and add more value added products to its product mix.

Environmental and social review

IDB Invest conducts an environmental and social due diligence (ESDD) commensurate with the nature, scale, and stage of the project, and with its level of environmental and social risks and impacts. The ESDD will confirm the project E&S categorization and assess the project with respect to the client requirements in IDB Invest Environmental and Social Sustainability Policy. The results of the ESDD, including any identified gaps are described in the Environmental and Social Review Summary (ESRS) provided below. For projects approved as of 2016, any gaps with respect to IDB Invest's Environmental and Social Sustainability Policy at the time of the ESDD are addressed in the Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP) presented below, to comply with the date mentioned above.
