Project scope and objective

The proposed transaction consists of a senior secured financing of up to US$100 million to Club Atlético River Plate Asociación Civil (“CARP” or the “Club”), a non‑profit organization incorporated under the laws of the Republic of Argentina. The loan structure comprises: (i) an IDB Invest loan of up to US$50 million; and (ii) a CAF loan of up to US$50 million.

The loan proceeds will be used: (i) to refinance bridge financing used for the construction of the new school building and Casa River (the youth residence and development center), as well as (ii) to finance the construction of stadium improvements, including, among others, extending the useful life of the facility, improving acoustics, increasing capacity to 100,000 spectators, and installing a partial roof to enhance the spectator experience.

With more than 350,000 members, CARP is one of the sports clubs with the largest membership worldwide and is widely recognized for its professional football department. The Club enables the practice of 20 federated sports, organizes recreational activities for the community, and operates its own school with more than 1,000 students per year, ranging from early childhood through higher education, combining academic excellence with athletic training.

Environmental and social review

IDB Invest conducts an environmental and social due diligence (ESDD) commensurate with the nature, scale, and stage of the project, and with its level of environmental and social risks and impacts. The ESDD will confirm the project E&S categorization and assess the project with respect to the client requirements in IDB Invest Environmental and Social Sustainability Policy. The results of the ESDD, including any identified gaps are described in the Environmental and Social Review Summary (ESRS) provided below. For projects approved as of 2016, any gaps with respect to IDB Invest's Environmental and Social Sustainability Policy at the time of the ESDD are addressed in the Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP) presented below, to comply with the date mentioned above.
