IDB Invest and Agrícola Cerro Prieto Boost Productivity and Competitiveness in Peru’s Agribusiness Sector
LIMA — IDB Invest will support Agrícola Cerro Prieto (ACP), one of Peru’s leading agribusiness companies, with $33.4 million in financing to strengthen sustainable agricultural production in the country. The operation is part of a secured senior loan of up to $167 million alongside BBVA Peru and Interbank, each contributing $66.7 million.
The financing will support agricultural investments for crop expansion and renewal, machinery and equipment for packing and post-harvest operations, as well as the refinancing of a previous loan. This refinancing will strengthen the company’s financial structure and support its long-term growth strategy. The loan is expected to help increase production, improve productivity, and support economic development in local communities.
“Through this financing, IDB Invest is supporting Agrícola Cerro Prieto’s expansion through new plantings, crop renewal, and improvements to its packing facilities, strengthening the competitiveness of Peru’s agribusiness sector in global markets. The operation enhances the resilience of a key industry for the country and helps sustain rural employment in the regions where the company operates,” said Carlos Narváez, Head of Corporates for the Andean Countries at IDB Invest.
The investments include crop renewal using improved genetics, which will strengthen the company’s ability to adapt to climate-related events affecting the sector. In addition, the project is expected to support an increase in both permanent and seasonal employment by generating greater demand for goods and services from local suppliers.
“Agribusiness is one of the main drivers of economic growth and job creation in Peru. Through this operation, we are supporting investments that strengthen productivity, expand economic opportunities in the regions, and help ensure that the sector continues to generate value for rural communities and for the country,” said Matilde Bordón, IDB Group Representative in Peru.
This investment aligns with IDB Invest’s strategy in Peru to promote productive development and strengthen the competitiveness of agribusiness, one of the country’s key sources of growth and employment. By partnering with BBVA Peru and Interbank, IDB Invest helps advance financial solutions that address the sector’s long-term investment needs while strengthening the role of local banks in financing productive activities. Through these partnerships, IDB Invest seeks to support companies that drive innovation, productivity, and sustainable growth across regional economies.
