About IDB Invest
IDB Invest aims to be the partner of choice for the private sector in Latin America and the Caribbean. We finance projects to advance clean energy, modernize agriculture, strengthen transportation systems and expand access to financing.
Like the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), our commitment is to economic growth and social inclusion; that is central to our identity, as part of the IDB Group. But our focus is on the private sector.
As the private sector arm of the IDB Group, we know the region. We work where our clients are and can provide them with customized financing solutions and expert advice tailored to their specific industry and market.
IDB Invest is owned by its 48 member countries, 26 of which are in the Latin American and Caribbean region. Each country’s voting power is proportional to the number of IDB Invest shares it holds.
IDB Invest offers a wide variety of financial products for private sector projects in Latin America and the Caribbean. To be eligible for IDB Invest funding, a project must meet several criteria. Also financing provided by IDB Invest will be at market conditions. The project must at least comply with the following criteria (additional criteria may apply to projects, depending the industry):
- Be in a Latin American or Caribbean country that is a member of the IDB Group.
- Be in the private sector or part of a state-owned company seeking financing without a sovereign guarantee.
- Have a positive and scalable impact in the local economy.
- Be environmentally and socially sound, satisfying our environmental and social standards as well as those of the country where the project will be executed. Be compliant with our corporate governance, integrity and reputational standards.
- IDB Invest does not lend directly to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) or individual entrepreneurs, however, many of our clients are financial intermediaries that on-lend to smaller businesses.
- IDB Invest does not finance NGOs, start-ups or mergers & acquisitions.
- Companies must have at least 3 years of audited financial statements. It does not apply for project finance.
- Exhibit a profitability in line with benchmarks for the industry and country/es where the company operates.
- IDB Invest focuses in financing projects that aim to increase company’s capacity, improve productivity and/or quality, reduce carbon footprint, and/or have a significant social impact.
