José Tessada is an associate professor at the School of Management of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where he served as chair from 2018 to 2025. He is also a faculty affiliate of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL). Before joining the School of Management in 2010, he worked at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC. He also served as a visiting assistant professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Maryland, College Park. His research focuses on labor and development economics and has been published in academic journals and edited volumes. He holds a licenciatura and a master’s degree in economics from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and a PhD in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
