Economics of Electricity Losses in Latin America and the Caribbean
In Latin America and the Caribbean, despite notable advances and reforms, electricity markets still face severe inefficiencies. One of the most alarming and persistent signs are the high levels of electrical losses, which generate social, environmental and economic costs.
These losses negatively affect the quality of the electrical infrastructure, especially harming the most vulnerable segments of the population. In addition, they compromise the sustainability of the electricity sector, which is essential to close investment gaps in infrastructure and facilitate the energy transition.
The book offers an in-depth analysis of the magnitude and causes of these losses in the region, offering policy options based on regional experiences. It is expected that the analyzes and policy implications presented will serve to effectively address the problem of losses, while promoting discussions aimed at achieving an efficient, equitable and sustainable regional electricity market.
