MIAMI — IDB Invest has led a $140 million financing package for Torrecom Partners LP, a U.S.-based leading independent telecom tower operator in Latin America, to support the expansion of digital infrastructure, connectivity, and competitiveness across the region.

The project will expand Torrecom’s portfolio to more than 2,550 towers in Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay and Peru, enhancing regional connectivity infrastructure.

The $140 million long-term financing package, led and arranged by IDB Invest includes five international investors comprising development finance institutions, funds and commercial banks: DEG, Proparco, Allianz Credit Emerging Markets Fund, ILX Fund, and BAC.

This deal is a landmark in the implementation of IDB Invest’s Originate-to-Share business model. It reflects IDB Invest’s role as a connector between international private-sector investors and the opportunities offered by Latin America and the Caribbean. By combining deep regional expertise with innovative financial structuring, IDB Invest transforms development opportunities into bankable assets and mobilizes international capital at scale.

This initiative will improve network efficiency by promoting tower co-location and supporting the deployment of next-generation technologies such as 5G. By fostering infrastructure sharing, the project is expected to reduce costs, optimize resource use, and enable mobile network operators to focus investment on core network upgrades.

“Expanding access to robust digital infrastructure is key to driving productivity and unlocking new economic opportunities across Latin America and the Caribbean. Initiatives like this help accelerate innovation, strengthen competitiveness, and support sustained growth in the region,” said Ilan Goldfajn, President of the IDB Group.

“At Torrecom, we are committed to expanding the wireless infrastructure needed to strengthen connectivity and support the continued growth of digital services across Latin America. We see significant opportunities to extend infrastructure into markets where demand for connectivity continues to grow, and we look forward to working with IDB Invest to assist in advancing more accessible infrastructure in the region,” said Maria Scotti, CEO of Torrecom.

Latin America has made significant progress in mobile broadband coverage, with 4G reaching more than 90% in most countries. However, 5G adoption remains below 15%, highlighting the need for continued investment to sustain competitiveness. Torrecom’s expansion will play a key role in meeting growing data demand and supporting economic growth across the region.

Beyond financing, IDB Invest will provide advisory support to Torrecom to enhance its Social Engagement Plan.

This transaction underscores IDB Invest’s commitment to enhancing connectivity and fostering private sector investment in Latin America.
