IDB Invest Supports Banco Santander Brasil to Promote Resilient Investments
WASHINGTON — IDB Invest approved a loan of up to $550 million for Banco Santander Brasil to support the expansion of resilient investments.
The project will help mobilize private investment and expand access to long-term financing for initiatives that support a more resilient and sustainable economy in Brazil.
This operation will allocate resources to eligible projects under the Brazilian Government’s Eco Invest program, focusing on improving agricultural productivity, land use, and infrastructure.
The initiative is aligned with the IDB Group Country Strategy with Brazil 2024–2027, which prioritizes the sustainable use of natural resources, infrastructure growth with private sector participation, and the expansion of sustainable finance.
“Our collaboration with Banco Santander Brasil demonstrates the value of partnerships in channeling resources toward projects that drive economic development and strengthen the country’s competitiveness. Through this structure, IDB Invest seeks to expand private-sector participation and generate a multiplier effect that contributes to Brazil’s development priorities,” said Marisela Alvarenga, Managing Director and Chief of the Financial Sector Division.
“IDB Invest’s partnership strengthens our ability to channel long-term resources toward initiatives that promote productivity, innovation, and economic development, while supporting the country’s ecological transition agenda,” said Sandro Sobral, Head of Financial Management at Santander Brasil.
The financing package includes a $150 million A-loan provided by IDB Invest and a $400 million B-loan to be funded by participating financial institutions. The A/B structure will help mobilize additional private-sector capital, strengthening the operation’s catalytic effect.
