IDB Invest Launches Regional Network to Boost Sustainable Finance in Latin America and the Caribbean

IDB Invest launched "enlaces", a regional network that promotes dialogue on sustainable finance in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). The "enlaces" network, which comprises public and private commercial banks and financial institutions, aims to create synergies and promote sustainable finance throughout the region.

The announcement took place during the II Latin American Congress on Sustainable and Inclusive Banking held on August 26 and 27 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The "enlaces" network creates a platform for collaboration among financial actors in the region. Members can share experiences and best practices, facilitate access to knowledge and training, promote practices that incorporate environmental, social and governance criteria in financial institutions, enhance the mobilization of impact financing, and position the region in the global sustainable financing agenda.

The network is comprised of various initiatives, including private and public- private working groups, green and sustainable finance protocols, innovation laboratories, and sustainability committees.

To date, 10 initiatives representing around 200 financial institutions from different countries have joined:

  • Argentina: Protocolo Finanzas Sostenibles
  • Colombia: Protocolo Verde y Protocolo Social (Asobancaria)
  • Ecuador: Protocolo Finanzas Sostenibles (ASOBANCA)
  • El Salvador: Protocolo de Sostenibilidad (ABANSA)
  • Guatemala: Consejo Consultivo de Finanzas Sostenibles
  • Honduras: Programa Banca Sostenible (AHIBA)
  • México: Protocolo Sustentabilidad (ABM)
  • Panamá: Protocolo Finanzas Sostenibles (ABP)
  • Paraguay: Mesa Finanzas Sostenibles
  • República Dominicana: Protocolo Verde (ABA)

IDB Invest is the founder and strategic advisor of "enlaces" and will provide support during the initial stage and consolidation of the network. The network will focus its efforts on four strategic pillars: analysis of environmental and social risks, green and climate agenda, social agenda, and corporate governance.

With the launch of "enlaces", the region is moving toward a future where sustainable finance is a reality, contributing to sustainable and responsible economic development, and positioning itself as a relevant player globally in sustainable financing.
