IDB Invest Expands Financing for Colombian Microenterprises, with Banco Mundo Mujer

WASHINGTON – IDB Invest has approved a senior loan of up to 180 billion COP ($48.8 million) to Banco Mundo Mujer to boost access to financing for microenterprises in Colombia, including women-owned or women-led businesses.

 

This operation will help reduce financial inclusion gaps in the country and promote sustainable economic development that benefits thousands of entrepreneurs and families nationwide.

 

The loan is divided into a committed tranche of up to 120 billion COP and an uncommitted tranche of up to 60 billion COP.

 

Banco Mundo Mujer is a strategic partner for promoting microcredit in Colombia, serving over 777,000 customers via 187 branches in 22 regions of the country. It will use IDB Invest financing to strengthen its microloan portfolio and expand coverage for vulnerable populations, thereby driving job creation.

 

In addition to the loan, IDB Invest will provide technical assistance to develop and strengthen a value proposition focused on the silver economy. This technical advice will sharpen Banco Mundo Mujer’s strategy in priority market segments by improving the design of its products, processes, and customer service channels.
