IDB Invest Announces New Key Leadership Appointments

  • New leaders will help drive the organization's transition to its Originate-to-Share business model. 

 

IDB Invest has concluded its selection process for three key leadership positions, appointing executives to its Senior Management Team. These appointments represent a significant milestone as IDB Invest transitions to its new business model, Originate-to-Share, making strides to increase its scale and deepening its impact in Latin America and the Caribbean. 

 

Effective January 1, 2025, the organization has implemented a new business model and organizational structure. The new appointments will report directly to IDB Invest’s CEO. Following open, comprehensive, and competitive processes, these leaders will help drive the institution’s strategic vision forward. 

 

Chief of Regions: Katia Bouazza

Katia Bouazza is a globally recognized banking executive with a track record in transformational leadership and product innovation. With over 25 years of experience at HSBC, she held key roles, including Vice Chair of the Americas, Head of Global Banking in Latin America, and Co-Head of Capital Markets/Capital Financing Americas. Bouazza has extensive knowledge and experience in Latin America as well as a strong track record in domestic and international markets, giving her a deep understanding of global culture and business practices.

 

Chief of Industries: Sergio Lew

Sergio Lew is a recognized banking leader with extensive experience running established, new, global, and local banking businesses. He has served as CEO and CFO at Santander Rio and held other senior roles in Wholesale and Investment Banking across Argentina, New York, and Spain. With expertise in Funding, Treasury, Structured Finance, Syndications, among others, Lew was the CEO of Santander Rio, Argentina, until 2021 and led the Corporate Banking group Santander New York until 2024. 

 

Chief of Products: Fabio Fagundes

Fabio Fagundes has led IDB Invest's Financial Products & Services Division for over eight years, enhancing the portfolio with more than 50 innovative financial solutions. He brings over 30 years of experience in global financial markets and has expertise in areas such as Blended Finance, DCM, and Trade & Supply Chain Finance. Prior to IDB Invest, he was Global Head of Trade Asset Mobilization at Santander Group. 

 

Effective April 1, 2025, these appointments represent a significant milestone in IDB Invest’s institutional evolution.
