WASHINGTON – IDB Invest has approved financing of up to $50 million for Habi Colombia, a technology platform that streamlines the buying and selling of pre-owned homes, with the goal of expanding access to housing for low- and middle-income families.
By leveraging technology to facilitate access to the real estate market for vulnerable populations, the project will advance inclusion in Colombia, reduce inequality, improve market transparency, and lower transaction times and costs.
The operation consists of a structured loan for the acquisition and management of real estate assets, including a committed tranche of up to US$25 million disbursed in Colombian pesos, and an uncommitted tranche for the same amount.
"This transaction reflects our commitment to expanding housing access in Colombia through innovation. By supporting Habi, we are contributing to the modernization of the real estate market while backing low- and middle-income families, who traditionally face greater barriers," said Guillermo Foscarini, Head of the Corporates Division at IDB Invest.
IDB Invest will also support the implementation of an alternative credit scoring model for a new Habi mortgage line targeting women, young people, and other groups with limited access to financing. The company will adopt an Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP) and a Corporate Governance Action Plan (CGAP) to strengthen its internal policies, procedures, and systems.
