IDB Invest, the private sector institution of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group, has signed a subordinated loan of $75 million with Banco G&T Continental de Guatemala. The objective of the project is to increase financing to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), with an emphasis on companies led by women.
The loan allows Banco G&T Continental to grow in the SME segment and support the portfolio diversification process. SMEs represent an important segment of the Guatemala economy, reaching approximately 90 percent of the total number of active companies registered in the country. They currently face credit restrictions and limited access to financial products and services.
IDB Invest will also support Banco G&T Continental with advisory services, accompanying it in the development of a comprehensive value proposition for companies led by women. In addition, this consultancy will contribute to the efforts to support inclusion practices and gender equality in the management of the bank's talent.
Banco G&T Continental seeks to replicate and scale up the G&T Mujer program in Guatemala, which it has successfully developed through its subsidiary in El Salvador since 2012 with the support of the IDB Group. This program has allowed it to position itself as a leading bank in the financing of small and medium enterprises led by women.
