Food Loss in the Agribusiness Sector: The Perspective of Companies in Latin America and the Caribbean
In Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), 11.6% of food produced is lost from harvest to the wholesale market (not including it), equivalent to 220 million tons per year. Despite the importance of the problem, the information available on the subject at the country and product or production chain level is insufficient and access to certain studies is limited, which reduces the volume and quality of the information available.
In this context, this research (only available in Spanish) aimed to characterize the problem of food loss in the agribusiness sector in LAC and identify possible solutions to reduce it. The study identified the challenges and needs of around 100 companies in the sector that were contacted directly as part of the survey process.
