IDB Invest, a member of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group, placed a new 10-year, USD 100 million Transition Bond to support projects that contribute to the transition to a carbon-free society, and economic and social development through investment and financing of private companies in Latin America and the Caribbean. Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance company is the sole investor of the bond with Citigroup Global Markets Ltd. acting as dealer.

IDB invest supports companies in their climate transition to a low carbon and resilient economy by financing their climate related commitment and practices that leads them to technological changes, new business model adoption or efficiency measures which effectively address climate-related risks and contribute to alignment with the goals of the Paris Agreement, while being tailored to the sector and operating geographies.

This bond is the first green bond issued under IDB Invest’s Sustainable Debt Framework and is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals 7 (Affordable Clean Energy) and 13 (Climate Action). The Sustainable Debt Framework was launched in February of this year with a US$1 billion, 5-year sustainability bond followed in March by a MXN2.5 billion, 3-year social gender bond.

IDB Invest’s framework is aligned with the Green Bond Principles and Social Bond Principles published by the International Capital Markets Association as certified by an independent second party opinion provided by Vigeo Eiris, a recognized international provider of environmental, social and governance (ESG) research and services.
